Lakes Awnings and Marine, formerly known as Custom Upholstery and Awning Center, was established in 1988. Same great employees, owner and clientele. The last 38 years we have thrived on the quality of our upholstery, awning, shade products and marine restoration products. As we all know the industry is falling short of upholsters which makes it hard to promote furniture upholstery as a lead in our business. So, with that being said, we made the decision to change our name to reflect what we can confidently give to our clients.

Going back to 1988, previous founding owners David and Judy Cruikshank, started up their own upholstery shop in Nisswa, MN doing strictly automotive upholstery and some furniture. Then as employees were brought in, more and more project were taken at hand. In 1990, their son Gary Cruikshank brought in the need for Awnings and Shade Products. Then in 1999, as the business was growing and needing more space, we then moved to Brainerd, MN and have been at the same location since. Lakes Awnings and Marine has strongly focused the business on awnings, shade products, marine restoration, and certain approved furniture products.
